So Kanzas.... has skinnybones n' glasses there ever caught your eye?
Anonymous

KANZAS: You mean Syuveil? Can’t say as he has, honestly.

SYUVEIL: Oh, thank Soa for small favors.

KANZAS: … huh.

SYUVEIL: why are you looking at me like that.

KANZAS: Now that you mention it, though, he does have nice eyes, once you get the goggles off.

SYUVEIL: oh dammit.

KANZAS: And I might prefer ‘em a little more busty, but boy’s got legs that go on for MILES. That’s worth keeping in mind.

SYUVEIL: I—I KNOW that’s you, Miss Bones! What have I ever done to you to warrant this kind of treatment?

.... Kanzas, why do most of your interactions with Zieg involve you getting him drunk?
Anonymous

[KANZAS] If you’d met the man, you’d be asking yourself why you aren’t getting him drunk. He’s the most boring man in the world sober. Won’t even fart without a drink or two in him.

[SYUVEIL] Sometimes I pray that we won’t be remembered by future generations, because the reasons we are gaining renown make me bow my head in shame.

[KANZAS] —This dude, on the other hand. Not even remotely funny until someone brings out the absinthe.

Why is Damia scared of Zieg, but not KANZAS?

[KANZAS] She is afraid of me. The kid’s afraid of everyone except maybe the big ox. And Shirley. She’s got a thing for Shirley. I figure it’s about motherhood, though Soa knows Shirley would be a terrible mother.

The difference between me and Zieg here is that he’s the kind who peels the band-aid off a little at a time and makes the whole shit ordeal last a year. He saw she was scared and coddled her and now she won’t come near him at all. Me, I whip the band-aid off and get it over with. Damia’s afraid of me? Tough, because we’re in a damn war, and there’s a lot worse than me waiting for her. At least I don’t mean her any harm. She got used to me pretty quick.

Besides, I bribed her.

[Claire]: This is only 'cuz I'm curious, and because the old man won't talk about it. How'd Blondie FIT in a group like yours anyway? And why does he get that Look on his face whenever Syuveil starts talking?

[SYUVEIL] I think he’s just answered that question himself. Simply put, and in my own defense, he wasn’t good enough for Rose. He is, however, a good man and a good leader. I’ll grant him that.

That was his role. Where he went, we followed, whether or not it was the wise or sane thing to do. I suppose we could have done worse than to believe in him.

ziegandclaire:

[Claire]: So you hate Kanzas.

[Zieg]: …

[Claire]: And you wouldn’t piss on Skinny if he was on fire.

[Zieg]: …. I wouldn’t exactly put it that-

[Claire]: And while you’re perfectly friendly towards the big guy, you don’t get all flustered like you do whenever Shirley or the little girl pipe up.

[Zieg]: I fail to see your-

[Claire]: You’re kind of all about the ladies, aren’tcha?

[SYUVEIL] I fail to see any positives about being covered in Zieg Feld’s urine. Please continue keeping it and everything else to yourself.

7: things I we like and things I we don’t like about the way I we look.

[SHIRLEY] I have never liked drawing attention to myself. I was always a pretty girl—

[KANZAS] You’re still pretty

[SHIRLEY] —and that brought a lot of unwanted attention from human men as well as Wingly masters. I would have preferred to be plain.

[KANZAS] Then you should cut your hair off, because it’s beautiful. Makes you stand out a mile. What about you, Syu?

[SYUVEIL] If I had a choice, I would have preferred to be bigger and stronger.

[BELZAC] Really? Keep what you’ve got, Syuveil. No one ever insinuates your mother slept with a Giganto, or calls you a dumb ox.

[SHIRLEY] Or “wide load.”

[BELZAC] Hey, hey, Claire apologized. We dropped that.

.

17: something I we regret.

[SYUVEIL] I regret ever introducing Rose to Zieg. I don’t think he’s good for her.

[BELZAC] I wish we had more time for Damia. This is no place for a kid to grow up.

.

22: 5 things I we want to change.

[KANZAS] Oh, that’s an easy one, and I think we’d all agree. We want Melbu Frahma and his like dead and crispy-fried for what they’ve done. All the Wingly cities shot to rubble and the skies clear as paper. All the lesser races free and living in peace. A lifetime’s supply of booze pipelined up to the Dragoon Towers for all our hard work. And Shirley to stop playing coy and just get in my damn bed already.

[BELZAC] No, we do not all agree on the last one, Kanzas.

2. Favorite original dragoon

I would have no idea who to pick if it weren’t for the askblogs. I’M NOT KIDDING. In-game they all had like 10 seconds of screen time from cutscenes and they got mentioned sometimes and that was it. If I was just gonna blindly pick one it probably would’ve been Syuveil, but no. Thanks to the askblogs it’s Kanzas.

GOOD JOB KANZAS.

[KANZAS] HA! Drinks for everyone. It’s on me.

[SYUVEIL] My wounded pride ruefully accepts your offer.

About Shirley

[KANZAS] Alright, Miss Rag-and-Bone, I’m feeling nice and the others are sleeping, so you can get a real answer to your question. I love Shirley because there is not and has never been anyone like her in the whole damn world. I’m not talking about looks or whatever. Shirley’s got both a lot of sense and a good heart, and that combination’s rare. She isn’t stupid or naive. She’s been through hell and there’s more to come. I’m not even the ugliest part of her life, no matter what it looks like sometimes.

So when she gives everyone second chance after second chance until the math stops working, it’s not because she doesn’t know any better. She makes that decision every morning to know how rotten we all are at the core, and to believe the best of us anyway.

Of me.

I want her, just once, to be selfish and have a little self-preservation and prove me right about humankind, that none of us are as good as we like to pretend. It’s sick of me to test her this way, but that’s how I am and I’m not going to excuse it. So far, I’ve been wrong. She might lose her patience from time to time, but she never gives up on me. Did you know, she’s the only person who ever comes to my tower? The others have been scared off.

If in the end, she’s right and I’m wrong, and there is such a thing as a really good, pure, noble heart inside a human ribcage, maybe this war we’re fighting will be worth it after all.

[Claire]: Hey Thunderbro. Your turn. #1.

[KANZAS] To keep it simple, have you seen her?

[Claire]: Sorry about that Belzac, buddy. You know how it is- you take your kids to day care and somebody calls 'em a name and the next thing you know some six year old's bleeding in the corner and you're stuck homeschooling for the next eighteen years. Didn't mean anything by it, and I like how sweet you are with the little blue girl.

[BELZAC] I can’t say as I followed all of that, but I understand your protectiveness where Zieg is concerned. Not a problem. Already forgotten.
